WBLDEMS precinct delegate awards
We are fortunate to have a team of dedicated WBLDems PDs who went above and beyond in their own precincts and through the WBL community at large. The PDs selected for the PD awards exemplify the values of community and have contributed positively to the growth and development of our PD Team and the WBLDems.
New PD Award - Su Goodman (WB-1) Su organized and recruited new PDs and volunteers in her precinct. When the lit drop was complete, she initiated a plan to distribute WBLDems endorsement cards at the WB early voting location during the 9 days of early voting. She talked to numerous voters while passing out hundreds of cards. She was a positive and friendly force, considerably helping down ballot candidates. On election day, Su handed out endorsement cards at her own precinct. Su is a long-time activist, and we are delighted Su and her husband Ray have chosen West Bloomfield as their home.
Veteran PD Award - Linda Fiscus (WB-3) Linda has been a PD for 4 years. In previous election cycles, Linda organized her precinct, as well as several others. Linda was tireless in her efforts to turn out Dem votes. This cycle, Linda worked with her WB-3 team while joining the PD Data Team and becoming a PD Liaison. She organized and hosted PD miniVAN training at her home, welcoming all with a friendly smile. She is a member of the WBLDems social justice committee, her church, the League of Women Voters, a poll worker, and more. We are grateful for Linda Fiscus as a force for good in our community and club.
Patty Campbell Excellence for Education Award - Cathy Ferguson
This award is in memory of our esteemed club and executive committee member, Patty Campbell. Patty was known for her work on the Club’s program committee as well as her hospitality. She worked as an educator for more than 40 years, and was known for her dedication and creativity. This award will be bestowed upon a Club member who excels in service of improving education.
The inaugural winner of the Patty Campbell Excellence in Education Award goes to Cathy Ferguson. As an educator herself, Cathy identified the Walled Lake Schools Board of Education campaign to be critical to our educational values. She organized tirelessly on behalf of the CLASS slate, writing postcards, distributing signs and fliers, educating neighbors, and anything possible to ensure the candidates with democratic values won. Thanks in part to her efforts, the CLASS candidates took 3 seats and secured a majority on the school board.
These awards were announced at our Holiday Party, and the awardees will receive certificates of appreciation at our January meeting.
